Roots and ShootsWhile starting on Good and Green
By all of us it was seen
As the right things we had to do.
No doubt that we always knew
Some shared value would be there
But the major cost we would bear.
Our goals then seemed out of range
But technology is bringing change.
Some futurists quite quickly saw
That Solar PV tracks Moore's Law.
No more are PV costs so high
And now coal parity is nigh.
Further declines are foreseen.
This makes it easy to be green.
But new technologies are on the way
Not far away but any day.
The costs will see a giant fall
A Rupee per unit is our call.
Pollution will be at an end.
No more of the rising trend
Of GHGs in the atmosphere
The skies in cities will be clear.
What will it do to Chemistry?
I think we will clearly see
Feedstock prices falling low
As the need for fuel will slow.
But then I think what will be seen
Are feedstocks completely green.
Feedstocks that are completely new
H2O and CO2!
With energy that is cheap
We can surely make this leap.
Of course it is quite pertinent
That green energy is intermittent.
This might seem a major flaw
But batteries obey Moore's law.
But that is not the only way.
There are other ways we can play.
When electricity's cheap
Heat pumps can be a major leap.
Our storage needs we can meet
By storing both cold and heat.
It is now our understanding
The temperature range is expanding.
So thermal storage is a way
For thermal needs throughout the day.
Some energy could well be lost
And there would be additional cost
If electricity's generated
But all the same it should be stated
Our associate Sheetak's TE chip,
Enables us to have a grip
On the problem of conversion.
They have more than one version
Of their chips for every use.
This indeed is good news.
When a unit costs just one Rupee
There are advantages we can see.
Costs come down and margins rise
But indeed the real prize
Is having exponential growth
By simultaneously doing both
Competing on cost with what we do
As well as pioneering something new
Since energy that is cheap
Enables us to take a leap.
The circular economy
Is an opportunity.
All of us should make haste
In minimising any waste.
Technology shows us the way
Technology can save the day.
Sustainability is no pain.
Indeed it is a major gain!
